Landscha
by Visentin
This is our second last, and most serious (after Schöckel...) ride with Josef. Landscha is a small round hill near the town of Weiz, in the pre-Alps, where we stayed. It is featured with many excellent biking trails that form a network, though forests and clearings. The ride provides sceneric views all around, and a good overview of the region with beautiful typical houses of the area.
The Weizbergkirche is the church of the eponym town and its specific roof shape make it an unique monument in Austria. [more]

100 km of fortification
by tiziana
A well-marked cycling track and popular with bikers all over the world - this is the so-called “100 km dei Forti”, literally “100 km of fortifications”. This unique cycling track takes you across varied landscapes, pastures and saddles, meadows and woods, mainly winding on non-asphalted paths. The track stretches up hill and down hill along the former road network of World War 1. Cycle past mighty castles and ruins such as Forte Belvedere or Forte Busa, which are by the way definitely worth visiting. Here you can imagine all the efforts the soldiers had to made on their long way throughout the Trentino region. [more]

Sage Hills Trails
by Tangeman
Mellow (ish), open, well maintained, and within 5minutes of Wenatchee. Popular? Yes. However, the network of trails, though short, spans out to places where mtbers can find solitude. It's a great ride to do early when nearby (and better)Devils Gulch is muddy and snowy, and the greenery here is exploding (not literally..). Summers still good, but temps can top 100. Then it's for the lizards and snakes. [more]

Brechfa Forest, Wales
by Andy Livo
Brechfa Forest is situated in West Wales (Carmarthenshire) in the middle of some absolutely gorgeous countryside which is very quiet and not overrun with tourists! The Forest is more easily accessible from the large southern conurbations of Wales which it would seem to serve. The surrounding countryside is not mountainous but rather hilly peaks around the area of 1200 feet. Deep valleys cut through the area, with ancient wood lands covering the steep slopes and riverbanks. This part of South Wales is a rural area of scattered villages each with its own distinctive character and history. There is plenty of climbing and descending to be had! Brechfa Forest covers some 6500 hectares and there are walking and mountain bike trails, horse riders are allowed on the fire roads. [more]

Ridge of the Golden Mountains
by Visentin
After Kalenica, my quest of joining all portions of the Sudetes I have ridden is more on than ever, and the following week-end I decided with a friend to ride a part located between 2 other of my previous rides, Borůvková Hora on the north, and the White Mountains on the south. Between is located the continuation of what is called the "Golden Mountains" (Góry Złote in Polish), so called because of their mining past.
Speaking bike, this is a sort of no-man's land with no single mountain hut or any touristic feature, just forestry trails running on and along the ridge, that culminates at Kowadło/Kovadlina (989m). Empty, but how beautiful ! [more]

Kalenica
by Visentin
Kalenica is the continuity of Wielka Sowa massif, just a bit lower, but, owning some curious and interesting rocky features (Kalenica means "roof-ridge"). Like the latter, it also has an outlook tower on top, which makes a fine goal, despite made of iron beams and not as photogenic as the previous one. [more]

Infantastic bike-trail
by Visentin
Many bike-trails exist on the market, some brands are better than others, some are more expensive than others.
My aim was to choose a cheap one but good enough (I didn't want to invest 500€ in it !), which fulfilled the following conditions :
- Big in space, to be able to store extra gear, and possibly (!) a second child ;)
- With a third removeable front wheel to make it like a push-chair
- With suspension on wheels for not-so-flat trails [more]

Escapade within the Laurentians
by rustybike
I just had to take the leap of faith ! Summer was arriving and I just wanted to do something different than being some type of castaway flowing to the currents of town ultimately washing up in any fast food for some sanctuary . I thought about it for some time not being sure if I'd come back in one piece let alone alive. After all I'm certainly not an athelete and the thought of it brought shivers up my spine. What if something happens out in the woods where first aid looks a little like delivering your final wishes if they do find you ? I then pondered the alternative which was to cling on to my uneasy state of existence dwelling on the very figurative state of material comfort I had in my quest for a feeling of security ... [more]

PolarPak review
by BeDrinkable
This is my review for the PolarPak gel hydration pack reservoir. Whew, is that a mouthful!
Most of us probably don’t think too much about hydration (I know I sure don’t). We just fill up the bottle or Camel’s Back and off to the races. This year on my second ride of the season I started thinking I was sweating an awful lot, especially considering it was only ten degrees above freezing. Of course, it didn’t take me long to realize that it was localized completely on my back and below my water pack. [more]

Sunpak Flexpod Gripper Mini Tripod
by junodirtrider
Tired of setting the camera on wet rocks, damp ground, soaking branches, and crumbling snow, this abstract tripod solves dozens of problems in the field. Planting my camera atop this eight inch tripod with stick'em-like legs opened up a whole new world of opportunities, especially with night photography. [more]
