OverviewWhile Boulder may be thought of as a great cycling town, most locals would agree that Jefferson County (Boulder County's southern neighbor), has better trails. A wide variety of terrain and hundreds of miles of trail make Jefferson County a true mountain biking destination.
Jefferson County also features many miles of the Colorado Trail, which travels from Denver to Durango. Also found near Pine in southern Jeff Co is Buffalo Creek, which has been designated as an IMBA "Epic Ride".
IMBA Epics Buffalo Creek TrailsGetting ThereJefferson County is relatively large and spans many towns. The city of Golden, CO sits on the northern edge and is home to many trails. Other cities that sit within Jeff Co are Westminster, Evergreen, Wheat Ridge and Connifer.
Traveling west from Denver on I-70 for 20 miles will put you in Jefferson County, and in close proximity to several trails both to the north and south of Interstate 70, which heads to the ski resorts further west.Red TapeJeff Co has a reputation for being bike friendly, but recent management plans have shown this is not to be taken for granted. For instance, the newly created Centennial Cone trail has alternating weekends for hikers and bikers.
Also the "shuttle-ability" of certain trails, namely Apex, has caused strife at times. Always obey the rule of yielding to the uphill rider if you must shuttle open space trails, and please be respectfully to any hikers or equestrian riders that you may encounter.External LinksJefferson County Open Space Trails
