Overview

Note: This page is a work in progress. PM me if you have any suggestions, or want to be an editor.

Well known for the world renowned Whistler Blackcomb ski resort, the village of Whistler is also (unsurprisingly) home to some of the best mountain biking in the province. In the summer, Whistler mountain is turned into the similarly well known Whistler Bike Park, boasting several kms of lift-access thrills, and is host to the humongous Crankworx festival. But, there's much more than just gravity based thrills in the area. There is a huge network of trails snaking through the valley, and some with pretty famous names, such as A River Runs Through It, Thrill Me Kill Me and Comfortably Numb (the local epic). There is even a nice network of paved trails for those who are afraid to get their tires dirty.

All of the biking trails (save the lift access ones, of course) are free to use and very well maintained. They feature plenty of natural features (rocks, faces, plenty o' roots) as well as a nice selection of man-made features (ladders, bridges, the odd teeter-totter). Most of the local bike shops will sell you a map of the trails in the area for less than $10, and there are also maps posted for some of the trail networks right in and around the village.

Getting There

Head north from Vancouver on the breathtaking Sea-to-Sky Highway (number 99) for just over 100km and you'll find the Whistler Village right off the highway. There is no airport in Whistler, so only float planes fly in (which I imagine is rather expensive). Greyhound offers daily busses that leave throughout the day from 5 am to 7pm. There's a $10 fee for putting your bike on, and they also generally offer discounts to students and Hosteling International members.

Accommodation

Whistler Village is very much a tourist destination, and as a result has a plethora of places to stay right within the village at the base of the mountains. For the more budget-oriented, there are also a number of hostels in the area where you can stay for $30 or less per night. There is camping in the area, but I have no information on pricing or availability.
