My Confession

I have to give credit where it is due...I didn't take these photos...I borrowed them from the Tamarack website. If anyone has any of their own that they'd like to post onto this area, please do so! Next season I will actually stop and whip it out...my camera that is.

Overview

Tamarack Mountain Resort is located in the heart of Idaho’s magnificent Payette River Mountains, and is the first newly permitted four-season resort in North America in more than two decades.

With over 30 miles of IMBA–designed trails, Tamarack Resort has something for everyone. Trails provide options of meandering through meadows or rocketing down perfectly designed downhill trails that twist, turn, roll, and drop from the top of the Tamarack Express chair lift. From the lift, you have access to 12 miles of downhill single-track with a wide range of difficulty of rock drops and jumps.

The meadow trails have more than 18 miles of awesome single and double track riding that takes you near creeks and through rolling meadows. You can pedal awesome single track or ride the lift to the top for a 360 degree view of Lake Cascade and the surrounding mountains. The lower trail system offers not only smooth rolling trials, but also a Challenge and Jump Park that is designed to aide in skill progression by testing your balance, timing and technical skills.

Downhill Trails & Descriptions

Here are some of the more popular and heavily ridden trails. There are many, many ways down the mountain on easier trails, but they can all be described as a group: Well groomed, low technical level, can be very fast, but be careful that you don't run anyone over!

SmokeJumper- BLACK
A new black diamond trail, SmokeJumper has fun jumps, drops, creek crossing and optional double black diamond lines. This is the first section of this trail which will come all the way down the south border of Tamarack Property to the top of the Super Pipe when it is totally completed.

To access SmokeJumper you get off Tamarack Express at the top of the lift and then ride up the summit road for a short distance (follow the signs.) Currently the trail connects to Canoe Spur Road which will merge to the lower section of Hockey Mom and then down to Hub 5 where you can access Apollo, Dirty Blonde, Super G, or Rockstar.

Hockey Mom - BLUE
This new section of trail starts at Hub 3 and finishes at Hub 5. There are several fun little drops and a lot of twisty switchbacks. Be aware that this section of trail can get VERY powdery and dusty.

The Hibernator- DOUBLE BLACK
This is a super technical trail with lots of drops, steeps, and tech rock features. Expert skills required.

Stage Fright - DOUBLE BLACK
Stage Fright

This is a short section that starts directly under the lift about halfway down the mountain near where Super G and a road intersect. Just watch for the signs. This section is a highly technical rocky outcropping that has been made rideable and has a huge rock drop directly under the lift for those of you who are half insane.

Exit State Right - BLACK
For those of us who aren't quite up for Stage Fright, ESR is a technical but more manageable trail just to the right of Stage Fright. There are some rock features and short steeps that require a fair amount of skill.

Super G - BLUE
Bigger, better, and faster than ever. This is probobly the most heavily trafficed trail. It winds its way down from the top and provided access to the majority of the trails on the mountain. With lots of fun corners and little drops, Super G makes for a great trail to ride. This trail also turns into the the Show Low trail which also provides some excellent riding with several man-made and natural jumps to test your skills on.

Guided Rides

Professional guides offer an opportunity to explore over 80 miles of trails on West Mountain. Trip duration varies between 1 and 6 hour excursions.

You can ride with an experienced Tamarack guide mountain bike ride in this vast scenic area. Experience different wildlife, wildflowers, and excellent rails. Along the way, the Tamarack guide will share info about local flora and fauna, regional history, key geographic points of interest, and will give instructional tips on and mountain biking.

Advanced reservations are required.

How to Get There

From Boise

From W. State Street, go north on Highway 55 towards McCall. Follow this highway through Horseshoe Bend, and Cascade. When you reach the town of Donnelly, watch for the signs that identify the left turn to Tamarack (W. Roseberry Road). Once you turn onto this road, follow the signs for about 6 miles, it is very easy to find despite the numerous road junctions.

From McCall

Drive south to Donnelly, and turn right onto W. Roseberry Road. Follow the signs about 6 miles and you're there!

Parking

When you arrive at the resort, always keep left and you will run onto the main parking area...any right turns will take you to the wrong place!
