Overview

Moscow Mountain and the Palouse Range sport a network of trails mostly built and maintained by a local club. The land is owned by several private landowners who have granted permission for cycling and hiking. As long as visitors continue to behave, Moscow Mountain will remain an excellent recreational area. MAMBA, the local bike club, has been largely responsible for obtaining and negotiating access with the landowners. With the exception of one road, which is open from May until sometime in November, there is no motorized access allowed on most of the Moscow Mountain trail system. This area is forested with some small active logging operations ongoing. The trail surfaces are mostly packed dirt and decomposed granite. There are some nice views from the ridge.

Getting There

The main approach is to take highway 95 north out of Moscow about five miles and turn right on Lewis Road. Continue on past Saddle ridge road and turn left onto foot hill road. After a mile or so there is a parking area with a large sign board bearing information about access restrictions. Park here and ride on up the main road a quarter mile to the blue gate. Beyond this gate you will find forest roads and single track without the odor of hydrocarbons.
For specific information on trails check out the excellent MAMBA website listed below.

Camping

Spring Valley Reservoir, east of Troy, is a good place to camp. There is ride in access from there to the East end of the Palouse Range.
