OverviewBaldy is part of my favorite loop in the area. It starts inauspiciously off of FR 543, heading up hill and intersecting immediately with the base of Gashouse Gulch. From there, it heads north, wandering the line between the Buffalo Creek Fire and the shade of the trees. I generally prefer to climb up it.
Trail DescriptionAfter the FR, it is broken PPG that mixes now and then with dirt. Exclusively singletrack, you can make a good push going up and down. There is a really cool granite slickrock spot near the saddle before you drop into Miller Gulch. This usually is a favorite break spot, since I'm usually gassed at this point.
Getting ThereTypically, we get on Baldy from FR 543, either descending one of the trails from the CT and picking it up at the base. You can also ride in on 543 from the west at the intersection with 543/550 TH. Another good blast is to take Gashouse Gulch downhill to the start of Baldy, then uphill.
