Overview
Bear Creek Lake Park is a City Of Lakewood park. It has a number of amenities and features, including 2 small lakes for swimming, a few lakes for boating, a golf course, quite a nice trail system (with a few cracks) for road riding through the area (on your way down Bear Creek Trail), a campground (first come, first serve), and a good 12 miles or so of singletrack (open to hikers, bikers, and equestrians). The singletrack is almost entirely dirt, but a few spots of rocks exist, although not technical.
Entrance into the park is free for bikes, fee for cars. Hikers are also free. If you are driving in and parking somewhere, free parking is available in some areas in Morrison (careful! Some spots are 2 hours only!)
Trail Description
Almost exclusively dirt singletrack. A few areas must be linked by either concrete path (sometimes shared with golf carts), or by a road connector or two. The trail is easy, and not technical. Some areas have some rounded baby-head style rocks. The gain is not particularly difficult; indeed, it is significantly easier than most of the trails in the front range area of Jeffco, which usually consist of at least 1,000' of gain. Thus, it is a great area for beginners.I'll get some pics next time I'm over there...
Getting There
Take C-470 to Morrison Road. East to your first right, which is the park entrance. You can also access the south side immediately off of C-470, just north of 285 only on north-bound C-470.
When to Bike
Most of the year. The area can be brutally hot in summer. Can be muddy after rains and snow. The area is exposed, sunny, very little shade. Water is available in some areas near the visitor center, golf course, etc.
