Big Bear Lake is one of the most legendary mountain bike areas in California. For decades mountain bike racing has taken place at the Snow Summit Ski Resort. Snow Summit also offers lift rides during the dry months of the year providing access to beautiful eight thousand foot mountain trails and roads. The mountains surrounding Big Bear offer countless options for high elevation riding. Some of the classic trails are Mr. Toads Wildride, Wildhorse Meadows, or the newer Grays Peak Trail. The lake elevation is around 6700 feet and the highest local mountain is Sugarloaf Mountain at 9952 feet.
Getting ThereBig Bear Lake can be reached from three main routes. Both routes have good signage.
From the Inland Valley Empire, cities like San Bernardino and Los Angeles side, take the I-210 Freeway to 330 Mountain Resorts Exit. Take the 330 until reaching the 18 East as it heads to the Big Bear area.
Another route from the Inland Vally Empire side is to take the I-10 Freeway to San Bernardino and take the 38 up into the mountains.
From the Mojave, cities like Lucerne and Victorville, take the I-15 to the Bear Valley Road exit and go east until reaching Highway 18. Take the 18 east until it turns south and climbs into the San Bernardino Mountains. Follow the 18 until it reaches the Big Bear Lake area.
All three of these routes can experience snow closures.
