Overview
Bootleg Canyon Mountain Bike Park is located in Boulder City Nevada. It is known as a premier mountain biking destination and is easily accessible from Las Vegas - only about a 45 minute drive from the Strip. The area is considered by many to be among the best in the nation. Mountain bikers have been coming to Bootleg Canyon for years, but the interconnecting trails have been extended and improved by trailmaster Brent Thomson.
Bootleg Canyon consists of a network of 9 downhill and 15 cross country trails, totaling somewhere in the neighborhood of 35+ miles. There is even a shuttle to the top. Although the downhill trails are considered intermediate to advanced, they are extreme. One of the most extreme portions is appropriately named "Elevator Shaft" where bikers scream down a 22 percent grade. Body armor and full face helmets are not uncommon. Cross country trails are listed as beginner and intermediate with a couple of advanced trails thrown in for good measure.
It is rideable year-round but is very hot during the summer months (100+), September to June are best. Bootleg Canyon trails are considered to be an "epic ride" by The International Mountain Bike Association, a title given out only 18 times so far. Great views of the surrounding area include Boulder City, Las Vegas and Lake Mead.
Total elevation change is something like 1,100 feet.
