Views to the main ridge

Černa Hora, the "Black Mountain", is a 1300m peak of the Giant Mountains (Karkonosze/Krkonoše), quite remote from the main ridge, which makes it quite individual and prominent when arriving from South in Czech Republic.

For this reason, Černa Hora offers splendid viewpoints to the Giant Mountains ridge, especially on its highest top Śnieżka/Sněžka.

There is huge TV transmitter on top that makes the mountain recognizable from very far; unfortunately this object is not very beautiful when seen from close, but the mountain is very popular for various outdoor activities not only including biking (Hiking, Paragliding, Skiing, Cross-Country skiing, etc).

It is especially known in winter due to the ski resort and numerous lifts, and there is a significant amount of accomodations of all sorts, at different heights on the mountain, including a hut almost on the top itself. Due to that, unfortunately a significant amount of the trails are asphalted, but some are not and the mountain is rich in possibilities and interesting to explore.

One of the most interesting features (if not the most interesting) is the peat-bog located east from the top, where a didactical trail leads to a small outlook tower (Černohorské rašeliniště). The views from this tower, towards a large area of specific dwarf vegetation, are stunning. The peat-bog reminds a lot of Torfowisko pod Zieleńcem, Rejvíz, or Niknąca Łąka, a common phenomenon in the Sudetes range.

I did this ride in very early morning and could not afford too much time on it, so my exploration of Černa Hora can be summarized as the minimum, however the ride can be extended to another outlook tower not very remote that I noticed on the way, Rozhledna Hnědý vrch, which can make another fine goal for the ride.

My bike

Here is trail map that includes what I rode, plus an additional fragment that goes till Rozhledna Hnědý vrch as well, all together it makes a more significant ride.
Note: the didactical trail, despite not explicitely mentionned, is not very much a bike-trail, but rather for tourists on foot. Avoid to ride it in "rush hour" (sunny week ends, especially afternoons), respect the pedestrians, or in the opposite case, lock your bike at the start of the educational trail (not very long anyway).

Pec pod Sněžkou, the trailhead, is a very famous ski-resort, that you will have no difficulty to find when coming from Czech Republic. All roadsigns indicate it from Trutnov. On the foot of Sněžka, highest mountain in Czech republic, it is a bit the "Czech Chamonix".
Coming from Poland, this is more complex. Unless you live in the Lubawka area, which makes the Lubawka border more convenient, the best is to reach the Okraj pass (Przełęcz Okraj) that is located above Kowary. Drive down Mala Upa till Pec pod Sněžkou.

Most of the season, when no snow. Due to the surface, the trail shouldn't be too problematic after heavy rains.
