Wiashal Trail (Superman) Wiashal Trail (Superman)  by Woodzy

Enlarge Steep Sections Some people like to say that trails in SoCal aren't that difficult. Obviously they haven't ridden this trail.... The Wiashal Trail begins (or ends depending upon the way you start) just before the Santa Rosa Plateau Visitor Center. It then follows the ridgeline south and above Clinton Keith Road before finally descending into Murrieta. I have heard this trail called "Superman" by a few people multiple times. That is why that is part of the name.

40 kilometers of plains to reach the summit? This is possible, it is not a joke; the summit in question is the Cavour Rock, near Turin. It is all that remains of an immense mountain almost completely submerged by the sediments that formed the Po Valley. This hilltop in the middle of nowhere (it is just 162 meters high), contains so much history and charm to fill a book of six hundred pages, and it can take you a full day to explore it by mountain bike.

Marjan
Ridge Trail Marjan Ridge Trail  by Natko

Marjan hill is situated on the western part of Split city peninsula. Covered by dense pine forest, it is actually a huge park where many locals seek relax by waking, running, cycling, free climbing etc... Its highest point, Telegrin, rises 178m above deep blue sea. I will describe here an interesting trail over hill's ridge. Logical start for this is Vidilica, a gazebo on eastern side. We're climbing up Telegrin and descending to Marjan westernmost point, Institute of Oceanography, over a walking path.

Brotherhood
Bridge MTB Trail Brotherhood Bridge MTB Trail  by junodirtrider

The Brotherhood MTB trail, which parallels the Mendenhall River, is one of several MTB race courses in the Juneau Valley. It is flat for the most part with only one hill about four stories high and 75 meters in lenth. The scenery is great with several spots to pull out and check out the banks of the river where white water rafts full of tourists float by on a regular basis. It is rare to bump into other riders or joggers, but if you are lucky, spotting a black bear could be very exciting. Once in a while a rider may be also surprised by a horse and jockey or even a team since this route is also designated as a horse trail.

Bend, Oregon: Phil's Trail
System Bend, Oregon: Phil's Trail System  by Malibu

Phil's Trail is actually a network of trails west of Bend that would take days of 20 milers to discover. Swirling around Phil's are treads with names like C.O.D., KGB, Storm King, Old Dirty Pirate, Kent's and Ben's, and Phil's Whoop De Doos. This network also connects to other popular and scenic rides. For those needing an epic 30 miler plus, combine Phil's network trails with a loop around Swampy Lake, Metolius-Windigo, Farewell, Tumalo Falls Trail, or Mrazek. The climbs within the network vary from nil to a leg and lung scorching 2500 feet. Of course, the bonus for the climbs are the mountain biker designed twisty, flowy, on-the-edge, don't blink descents.

Apennines, Italy - Campo
Imperatore Apennines, Italy - Campo Imperatore  by RayMondo

If you ever wanted to find a ride that both gave a sense of tremendous awe and at the same time utterly thrilled you, then this place surely ranks as one of the greats. Great highways lead from Rome in all directions (though the crazy tailgate and don't give an inch driving spurs you on to escape the madness). Take the A24 Highway with its huge aerial viaducts to L'Aquilla (in 2009, suffered a severe earthquake). Then the Assergi exit (don't enter the tunnel, or it's 6 miles under the mountain). Zip up to Fonte Cerreto (1,120m 3,674ft), a most picturesque spot, where cyclists, bikers, and Ferraris frequent. In winter, when the road further ahead is closed, take the spectacular cable car ride (Funivia) to the resort above the high plane of Campo Imperatore - your final destination 27km ahead.

Misty mtn.
trail Misty mtn. trail  by ferday

An incredibly scenic backcountry ride, rich in challenge and reward. Some amazing travel through Great Divide country is punctuated by a ridiculous push up Rickarts pass (500m in 2.5km). The trail isn't too technical, but the push up the pass is not easy. although only 34km, it is a long trip that should not be taken lightly! At the pass there are several ridgeline routes that lead to scramble trails if interested.

Twin Peaks Twin Peaks  by Tangeman

Twin Peaks: the semi-secret Wenatchee hotspot for hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing. I say semi because for the most part, only the local shmoes know it's there. But it's still secret, because it's still not very popular compered to other mtb-ing spots like Sage Hills and Devils Gulch. So I just spilled the beans. Congrats, you're in on a secret.

Buck Mtn Buck Mtn  by Tangeman

The Methow Valley is a mountain biking mecca, and Buck Mtn is the mecca of the mecca. Here is a 13-mile loop you can make, I have to say this is one of the best trails the Methow has to offer: there's singletrack, logging roads, ups, downs, winding switchbacks, obstacles, stellar views, and about anything else a mtn bike trail can have. Including pain-in-the-bike-seat uphills: 1430' of the 2000' gain is gained in the first couple miles. That stretch we gave various names, the 'death march' and 'heart attack hill' being the two we prefered.
