River by surferclimber Is this right a "mountain bike trail" in Florida? OK so you're right there is no mountain in Miami nor anywhere in Florida (well maybe with the exception of those landfills on the side of the turnpike), but this park is a really neat place to visit with an off road trail that mimiks a mountain and is surprisingly fun - almost challenging. These are several loop trails, a mile or two each, which are spread out from a main dirt road trail that traverses a chain of islands often overlooking the bay. A few of the trails become ridge type trails where you have water on one side and cypress trees on the other, pretty unique. No real ascent or descent, but the trails are set up nicely with coral/sand hills and jumps over mangrove trees. More |

Bareilles valley by Visentin This tour can be made in both directions, from Arreau but also possibly from Jézeau, as well as the car park below the Bordères Lake. There are 1330 meters of vertical climbing and as much downhill for a distance of 32 km. The climb from Jézeau to the top of the ridge is steady but long, for those who like fast descents better choose the other sense that makes you cycle up the road to the car park under the Bordères Lake (longer but more gentle). The circuit takes beautiful forest tracks through and there are no technical difficulties... From time to time we get stunning views into the valley. More |
| | Reno Flag Bear Deadman by d_shorb If you only have a few days to ride definitely include this loop! You'll love it even if it crushes you. 3 massive uphills and 3 massive downhills, treat riders to fun riding throughout. So if you like long rides with super fast and scenic downhills, and hard, lung crushing uphills you will love this trail. It is actually a road and 3 trails, thus the name. Sometimes the motorcycles have turned some of it into a fine powder on the uphill (especially in Deadman), so doing it early in the day after a thunderstorm is a good idea. More |
| The Howgills, Cumbria, UK by Andy Livo The Howgill mountain range is situated in the South East of Cumbria. This area is outside the Lake District National Park but has a beauty of its own. Firstly it is much quieter than the classic Lake District fells because everybody goes West at junction 37 on the M6. Secondly these huge ancient mountains have views to die for. On a good day you can see right over to the Lake District and beyond. There are a number of bridlepaths around the Howgills the highest point being The Calf at 2217ft. What's more is that 95% of this is rideable not something you can say for many mountain rides. The route described here has an amazing 5 mile 1460ft descent. More |

| | Carrières de Beaulieu by Visentin The Beaulieu quarries is a forest near the eponymous village, full of rocky outcrops made of a good type of limestone, proper to construction. Despite the current factory is still active, quarrying has been an activity since very long ago, in different places of the forests, and the step-shaped rocks in many places attest from it. Nature, mainly pine forest and Mediterranean bush took their rights back since ages too, but many tiny trails allow to penetrate it in every possible way. This network is a little paradise for local mountain bikers, who enjoy dealing with the gentle obstacles formed by rocks of all shapes, and the smooth curves of the paths. More |
| the secret eye of Briançon:
"Infernet." by chaberton Mount Infernet (2400 m) dominates the walled town of Briancon (citè Vauban), at the confluence of the valleys of the Durance and the Guisane, French Western Alps. The fortress located on top of it is a real eagle's nest, from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of 360°, unique for his beauty and color. In June 1940, during the battle of the Alps, hidden among the rocks of Mount Infernet, was placed the French Artillery observatory, to destroy with the fire of his mortars the Chaberton Fortress (6th Battery of the 154th RAP [Regiment Artillerie de Position]). Is precisely the case to say that this mountain has always been very careful eyes on Italy. With this pleasant excursion, walking in the footsteps of history, we will search for these old eyes, now closed in peace now. More |
