Mellor Moor and Matley Moor
via Rowarth Mellor Moor and Matley Moor via Rowarth  by Andy Livo

This is a superb ride which has it all - long tough climbs, technical descents, a ford crossing and brilliant vistas across Cheshire, Derbyshire and the city of Manchester. These trails take you into the Cheshire hills and allow you to extend if you wish, linking with other routes e.g. Hayfield in The Peak District, or just cut short if time is at a premium. This particular ride will leave you gasping in some sections and grinning in others but it is all do-able. Just take your time and a breather when you need it!

Gabrielino / Arroyo Seco Gabrielino / Arroyo Seco  by Tom Kenney

The Gabrielino / Arroyo Seco loop is one of the hardest rides in the Front Range. Doing this ride as a loop is an arduous day-long adventure for most, and the technical difficulties range from rocky stream crossings to narrow cliff-hanging trail with loose surface.

Höhenweg Sernftal Höhenweg Sernftal  by Henk van den Akker

The Sernftal in the middle-east of Switzerland is a beautiful aeria for mountainbiking. Many trails from easy till very hard. Elm is the capitol of the valley. It's a small town with many very old wooden houses. It's a very nice trail. The first climb is on tarmac and in the second half very steep (20-25%). The further on gravelroad. The highroad is a very small trail with a beautiful view down on the valley and the surrounding mountains.

Gashouse Gulch # 726 Gashouse Gulch # 726  by jeremyhakes

Fast, loose PPG that can send you sprawling if you're not ready for the looseness. It goes through the Buffalo Creek burn area, so there is no shade. This is another great trail in the area. It can be accessed off of FR 543 (closed) or from the Gashouse Gulch TH, off of FR 550. I prefer to ride this trail downhill to Baldy Trail if starting at GG TH. Riding UP this trail from Baldy can be a little brutal. Uphill from the GG TH to the Miller Gulch trail is difficult, but rewarding.

The 403
Trail/Loop The 403 Trail/Loop  by d_shorb

This is one of the most scenic rides in Crested Butte, and is a highly recommended ride. This trail is often done as a loop and is frequently combined with the Snodgrass or 401 Trail. It is 4 miles of awesome single track with technical sections both up high and toward the bottom. The entire loop spins through two very scenic canyons and over some of the highest terrain available to mountain bikes.

Apennines, Italy - Campo
Imperatore Apennines, Italy - Campo Imperatore  by RayMondo

If you ever wanted to find a ride that both gave a sense of tremendous awe and at the same time utterly thrilled you, then this place surely ranks as one of the greats. Great highways lead from Rome in all directions (though the crazy tailgate and don't give an inch driving spurs you on to escape the madness). Take the A24 Highway with its huge aerial viaducts to L'Aquilla (in 2009, suffered a severe earthquake). Then the Assergi exit (don't enter the tunnel, or it's 6 miles under the mountain). Zip up to Fonte Cerreto (1,120m 3,674ft), a most picturesque spot, where cyclists, bikers, and Ferraris frequent. In winter, when the road further ahead is closed, take the spectacular cable car ride (Funivia) to the resort above the high plane of Campo Imperatore - your final destination 27km ahead.

The Downieville Classic
Downhill, CA The Downieville Classic Downhill, CA  by Andy Livo

Downieville has become the stuff of legends much as Mammoth and the Kamikaze was in the early ‘90s. This 17 mile downhill needs you to shuttle to the top and fly down to the bottom, a total descent of 4,170 fantastic feet! The standard downhill has it all, technical stuff, berms, switchbacks, swooping fast turns, edgey stuff, all out fast singletrack, water and even some mud. But the downhill is only part of the Downieville experience. There is a plethora of other trails defined as cross country but have some great technical challenges too. You could spend a week here and have not exhausted the possibilities.

Zicker Hills Zicker Hills  by Visentin

I came back in the Mönchgut peninsula in order to explore alone a hilly region with the mountain bike: the Zicker Hills. They are visible from everywhere in the surrounding shores because of their height, and therefore caught my attention from the start, as my eyes were constantly looking for hilly parts on the island. The location proved to be magical at dawn...

Cluj - Rasca Mare Valley -
Otelesti (1400 m) Cluj - Rasca Mare Valley - Otelesti (1400 m)  by csuporj

Rasca Mare Valley - Otelesti is one of the shortest routes to get from Cluj to 1400 meters. The interesting part is the loop that starts at the mouth of the Rasca Mare stream. From there there is a constant, not too steep ascent to Otelesti. From Otelesti to Racatau there is a fairly steep, non-technical descent...

Baldy Pass Baldy Pass  by ferday

A relatively quick hard-core spin for the gravity minded XC rider that wants a big climb before one of the best downhills in the Kananaskis! Often done as an after-work ride by Calgary locals due to the easy access and awesome downhill. An easy grade climb on logging roads turns into a steep and technical singletrack climb near the pass. Then check your brakes...it's time to drop-in! A steep scree slope is followed by kilometers of steep, narrow, nearly always off-camber and relentlessly rocky singletrack with plenty of opportunity for air and showing off technical skills. The ride ends with a pleasing screamer through a creek wash, and finally a gentle and extremely scenic spin on paved road back to the car.
