Overview

Cache Creek Trail

Hagen to Putt Putt is a short, fast and very fun loop in the Cache Creek Trail system near Jackson, Wyoming. The loop features rolling, flowy downhills with short, easy uphills; considering you take it in the standard direction. If you are in the mood for challenging climbs you can bike it in reverse but use caution as this is a heavily used trail and most people are looking for the downhill.

The Hagen Trail and Putt Putt Trail are two separate trails that run parallel to the central Cache Creek Trail which is a gated dirt road/singletrack trail that travels up the Cache Creek Drainage. There are multiple intersections with the Cache Creek trail for both Hagen and Putt Putt and, for this reason, Cache Creek serves as an excellent escape route should you want to cut the loop short.

If you are in town and looking for a quick ride that will get your blood pumping, the Hagen/Putt Putt loop is the way to go.

Also, due to the awesome nature of this trail, I did not stop to take very many pictures. For this reason, feel free to upload as many as you like to this page and, if you like, I can add some to the page itself.

Trail Description

Since these are separate trails that are normally combined into a loop, I will write a separate description for each:

Hagen Trail

The Hagen Trail runs parallel to the Cache Creek drainage along the southern banks of Cache Creek. On the western side, it actually starts within the boundaries of the Snow King Ski Resort and runs downhill into the Cache Creek Trailhead, where you will want to start this loop. The trail is 100% singletrack and mostly comprised of hard packed dirt with little rocks. It runs along the banks of Cache Creek, often coming within sight of the water, but sometimes extending up the hillside along the bank. There are numerous uphills and downhills, but none of them are very difficult with the exception of one very steep section which has a rudimentary staircase installed which will most likely need to be hiked. There are numerous escapes to Cache Creek Tr. and/or Putt-Putt.

Putt-Putt Trail

Putt-Putt runs parallel along the northern banks of the Cache Creek drainage opposite the Hagen Trail. Like Hagen, it is comprised of mostly dirt with no real rocks present although it is mostly comprised of fast, flowy downhill with few climbs. There are some very nicely sculpted and maintained berms as well. Along Cache Creek Trail, there are three entrances to Putt-Putt; for the longest and most thrilling ride (which is still short compared to most rides in the area), you will want to take the third entrance at about the 4.5 mile mark. This trail can be ridden down to the trailhead parking lot or, if you want to add another downhill, back down into town.

Here is a Helmet Clam clip from Putt-Putt, sorry about the quality. Also note that this video only encompasses some of the downhills, not the entire trail.

Getting There

Get to town square in Jackson, WY and take E. Broadway until you get to Redmond St., which will be right across from the hospital. Take Redmond until it T's with Cache Creek drive, which you will take left all the way to the parking lot.

When to Bike

As soon as the trails clear until the snow flies, so early June till September is ideal.
