Overview
Mary's loop is a very popular "first ride" to get you used to the Fruita area riding. It is mainly fast and flowing, but a few technical steeps will keep you on your toes. There are many spur/loop options, and most will want to include another loop such as Horsethief Bench and/or Steve's to make a worthy ride.
Trail Description
The trail starts with a climb, and depending on where you park, a bit of doubletrack. The climbing and wide trail gives way to faster flowing singletrack as the Colorado River views begin to appear. You'll find yourself wanting to look at the scenery, but keep your eyes open for a couple techy rock sections along the way.1.4 miles into Mary's Trail, you'll encounter a cattle guard that leads to a nasty portage section (for most) that drops you to Horsethief Bench where you can add another nice loop.
You can veer right at 1.4 miles to continue on Mary's, where you can then add on Steve's & Handcuffs for starters before doubling back on Mary's to the parking lot or riding the service road back to the car.
Getting There
Mary's Loop is accessed from the Kokopelli area parking lots off I-70 on exit 15, roughly 4 miles west of Fruita.Several parking lots are available, although the biggest lots are closest to I-70 and give you a nice warm up climb up and over the ridge on the gravel road.
