Mechanicals....
First Parkway ride of the season with the family. We decided to try and get about 20 miles in this morning... and my wife's brand new pink beach cruiser decided to have the rear hub fail. We were about 8 miles from the cars at the trailhead at this point. Fortunately we were pretty close to a convenience store, which I stopped by and bought a couple set of yellow bungee cords, as seen in this picture. Tied together, I was able to pull the bike trailer with the baby and my wife on her bike back to the trailhead. Decent workout pulling all that and going against the wind in this one...

Once getting home I tore the hub apart and found that someone had installed the hub incorrectly when it was built at the store I bought it from. 4-7-2012.

Literally. And 8 miles back. A workout indeed. Great times.

We did make a stop at one of the playgrounds on the way back, a nice breather. Since tearing apart the hub I've found the design is really rubbish. A metal O-ring holds the cog in place, which keeps breaking free. I've got some snap rings I'm going to install instead to see if that works.

I got two of them the former owner left at my Beach house. But I see now, one of them needs to be Pink.

Compared to my bikes this one feels so weird to ride. Seen the Wizard of Oz? I feel like the wicked witch of the west when I'm on it...

Funny thing is every one that was ran into on the trail that day was really drawn to the cruiser. Kids especially though it was cool.
