Overview

About 15,000 years ago most of North America was covered by a huge glacier. Wisconsin displays the earth-carving result of this glacier in its many lakes, river valleys, gently rolling hills, and ridges. The nearly 30,000 acre Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest, in particular, showcases many glacier-formed features including kames, moraines, drumlins, eskers and kettles.

Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest is managed for forestry and outdoor recreation. Over 130 miles of trails wind through the State Forest, providing spectacular views of glacial landscapes and forest scenery. Unfortunately, mountain biking is only permitted on the Greenbush (9 miles) and New Fane (5.5 miles) loop trails. Normally these trails are opened in late April through November, depending on trail conditions.

This is a map of the entire Northern Kettle Moraine State Forest.
