Overview

The Kenosha Pass to Georgia Pass section of the Colorado Trail features sweeping vistas across the South Park Valley, beautiful wildflowers, aspens groves, and a stiff climb topping out on Georgia Pass at 11,585'.

Since this is an out and back, it makes a great long ride for those with just one car, who can't do the Breck to Kenosha point to point ride.

Georgia Pass, along the Colorado Trail

Trail Description

From Kenosha Pass:

Head west on the Colorado trail, through pine and aspen forests and along an exposed bluff with sweeping views west, for 2.5 miles. At mile 2.5, you'll cross a creek (Guernsey Creek). Cross the creek and continue to mile 4.3, where you'll cross another creek (Deadman Creek). During this stretch, you'll cross an open hillside full of sage.

Near Jefferson Creek Road.

After crossing Deadman Creek, you'll climb to a gate at mile 5.1. Cross the gate and continue on the Colorado Trail, descending to the Jefferson Creek Road at mile 5.8. Pick up the trail on the other side of Jefferson Creek Rd and cross Jefferson Creek on a log bridge. Beginning climbing, following the CT, towards Georgia Pass. After a bit of riding, the singletrack CT will briefly join a stretch of rocky doubletrack. After about 0.1 miles, be on the lookout for a signed trail (for the CT and Georgia Pass) headed left off this double-track. Take this left (this junction is somewhat easy to miss).

At approximately 7.7 miles, the CT reaches a junction with the Michigan Creek Rd trail (on the left). Continue on the Colorado Trail. At approximately 10.5 miles, the trail will emerge from the trees and climb above treeline the remainder of the way, to Georgia Pass. You'll reach Georgia Pass at mile 12.

Turn around and retrace your route back to your car at Kenosha Pass.

Getting There

From the Denver Metro Area:

From 470 and Hwy 285:
Take Hwy 285 to the top of Kenosha Pass (about 42 miles from the C470/Hwy285 junction). Park at the large pullout right at the pass. Do not park in the campground. (Do not enter the campground, as they will charge you just to use the restrooms for fill up your water bottles).

When to Bike

Due to it's high altitude, this is a summer ride. The trail is often clear late-June to late-September, though it can (and does) snow any month of the year.
