Cambrian MountainsThe Cambrian Mountains of Mid Wales are one of Britain’s largest expanses of wilderness south of Scotland and are the product of thousands of years of interaction between an upland environment, and the few communities which have succeeded in creating their livelihood there. Originally the term “Cambrian Mountains” was applied in a general sense to most of upland Wales encompassing all mountains from Snowdonia to the Brecon Beacons. It was not until the 1950s that its application has become increasingly localised to the geographically homogeneous Mid Wales uplands of Pumlumon, Elenydd, and Mynydd Mallaen.
The rolling nature of the range makes the Cambrian Mountains ideal for mountain biking, with most summits, providing they are not to boggy, reachable by bike. The area has loads of trails, with a good mix of hill, mountain and forest routes. The remote nature of the area makes all kind of activity a dream, and it is quite probable that if you choose to ride in one of the less accessible areas, you will not see a single other person.
