Anyone have beta on rotator/ shoulder injuries?

Postby Serial Mountainbiker » Thu Mar 19, 2009 5:47 pm

3 arthrosopy, one incision, partial rotator tear, bone spurs, grind down edges where it was frayed. Or heres the procedures:

Arthroscopic debridement of degenerative glenoid labral tears
Arthoscopic subacromial decompression with acromioplasty
Micro-tenotomy of rotator cuff tendon involving supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendon

Just for fun I asked the Dr how long till I could: Road Bike - ans: 3weeks (5 weeks from surgery)

and MTB - ans; 3 months!

So I just got the sitches out and 2 weeks out from surgery I have full motion (hurts like a mother).

I plan on road biking this wk end and hope to MTB in 1 month. I also want to race a Hare Scrambles (Motorcycle XC) at the 2 month mark.

Am I pushing it?

Not had a shoulder op but dislocated my right shoulder in an MTBing accident. It took a few months and hurt like crazing when I first started biking. I think the key thing was doing the proper physio exercises and keeping it up. I just started gentle rides at the start and built up. :)

You may be being a bit ambitious here Serial but it is something to aim for even if you don't make it. But be realistic. In the long run its better to get sorted and take time rather than do someting stupid which may be permanent. I sound like my Dad!!!!

Just out of curiousity, what kind of PT did they put you on? Are you going through the whold range of motion every day?

I have the pulley, the stretch bands, the broom stick and luckily already have the TP massage kit. I'm getting 180 degrees full movement but it still hurts. Its about 1 hour to do all of them. I feel 90% better than the first week. Push ups seem to be months away, but I feel good enough to MTB. In the interest of healing, I'm only riding the 80 ft skinny and it feels ok when I drip a couple of feet.

Just to be able to put on a tee shirt is huge for me.

I would def recommend checking out the TP massage ball/ therapy kit for any of you guys- Awesome for recovery (healthy recovery).
