touring newbie dumbass

Postby d_shorb » Mon Dec 31, 2007 12:18 am

I'm a newbie looking for touring frame (and wheels, components) suggestions, particularly with dirt/gravel and "cross-country" in mind. Corax on Summitpost has good suggestions on his personal site. I'm also wondering where to look on-line. is this even a mbpost question? gawd.

:? Are you looking to piece something together or get a complete bike? I've ridden a trek 520 and it seemed like a good rig. If you are looking for just a frame to start with maybe a Surly long hall trucker frameset might do the trick and as far as components I would go with reliable over light weight... say shimano 105 road or lx mountain If you are looking for a inexpensive frameset bike nashbar has one for short money
just a few ideas...

Surly Long Haul Trcker frameset, or nashbar
Shimano 105's road or xl mountain
possibly a trek 520?
Thanks. Any more suggestions for frames, components, and online sources?

some other suggestions

There are many online places to look like,Bike Nashbar, Performance Bike, Colorado Cyclist, Jensen USA and Pricepoint to name a few. They are usually clearing out leftover stock this time of year so you might get lucky. Myself, I usually deal with my local bike shop. I like the service I get from them and since I am a regular they do what they can for me.......
Good luck...

When ever I need bike parts, I just go to www.craigslist.com They usually have what I need. (:
