Getting serious

Postby Malibu » Sun Mar 21, 2010 4:09 pm

Hello all.

I have decided to step into the 29er world and have ordered one of these at my LBS, Camas Bike and Sport in my hometown. It's a '10 Stumpy FSR Comp in XXL and is huge--should fit my 6'7" frame nicely. Now, with some production holdups at Specialized, it is back ordered so who knows when or if it will actually arrive this year...could be a month or 6.

My current GT, once repaired with a new frame, will become a nice backup and loaner for friends who would like an intro to mtbing.

(This is an XXL from 6'5" a member at mtbr.com--did I say huge bike?!)

You're right. I went what I thought was the the safe route, tried to avoid the 29er band wagon, and bought what I considered an affordable 26" with the one of the largest frames I could find. While it is easier to pitch and throw around on a trail, it is still too small.

I also know there will be significant learning curve with the Stumpy--2" to 3" larger in nearly every cockpit and wheelbase dimension plus the larger tire size. Won't be chucking it around as easily but perhaps the larger wheels will roll over stuff I had to weight and unweight for on the 26". Looking forward to it and pics will follow.

Yep, I decided I enjoy this enough, ride enough miles to get a little more adequate tool for the job. I probably won't be dealing with a cracked frame in 6 mos with the Stumpy and once I am comfortable, I'll be a lot more stable on this bike.

It's well earned as you did legitimately break a GT frame at the neck in less then three months!! :D I like the looks of the new steed. It cracks me up to think that I would be racking my family jewels on the top tube at stand over height!! Nice!!

This beauty will be competing for pride and honor space in the garage along with your classic car I imagine, eh? Scoot over four wheeled contraption from the distant past... space aged Specialized bicycle technology that was originally invented long before any auto-MO-beel is coming through.

RIDE ON!!!!!!

Well, actually...

Postby Malibu » Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:31 pm

it was 6 months but who's counting...

Yes, space-age meets old school. The cars are feeling a little neglected as I have spent a lot of time with the two-wheeled transports the last several months. Man, I have to split my time between 'em both for the summer. Sucks to be me. :P :P

Man, I would see if your LBS could do a dealer search to see if they might get one in sooner then they expect to see one on their floors. I just think there's gotta be one out there for you somewhere itching to get into your garage.

I don't know... maybe I am too focused on instant gratification. The nice thing though is that "out of sight, out of mind" always aids in adding contentedness to the mix of emotions.
