Ahh, come on V!! You've seen the videos of the guys who lift up their front tires, lunge up, and then ride across the hand rails before doing a 180 tail-whip on to the road!! Just try that and you'll be successful... and impress us with the photo!!

I'll just avoid the 180 tail-whip because there is no road below but cold water near 0'C ! :)

Something is wrong!! A 44 miler (70 km) ride on Sunday made my left knee hurt!! Maybe my fit is off, seat post too short, seat to far backward. Got any suggestions, anyone?

Commuting this week will be in 55 mph wind gusts and temps down to 6 degrees with the wind chill.

A little -8°C this morning with a freezing wind coming from NE (Siberia they say on the TV).
Had to put all possible warm clothes on !
The pedestrian bridge is fully repaired...

This morning was gorgeous. A but windy, clear and temps over 40 (!!!). Supposed to smow later in the week so I'd best enjoy it.

Hope that doesn't add to the knee pain - bursitis maybe. Either way, take it steady.

Kevin, maybe you're just getting a little old. :P I know 44 miles would get my knees sore so I try to get out of the saddle with smaller and especially larger climbs rather than spin 'em. Seems to help me.

Wind up that way, too? Winter's making another run at us here in the PDX area. The winds are pushing the cold air mass in.

My commutes over the last few weeks have been great on the rigid 29er. Hitting the trails around my community either on the way to work or on the way home. Drove the car today, though. Bone chilling wet and cool. I would have never warmed up at work and so I just wasn't in the mood. I'm usually pretty hardcore but not today.

Thanks to days getting (finally !) longer I could for the first time cycle back home via the same way than in the morning (Odra river). Usually, in the deepest of the winter, I need to ride back home through the city centre at night, which I dislike both for the smoke than for the stress and the certain risk...

A nice ride in today. Still some snow, ice, dirt and salt piles. All easily avoidable.

Had to spend almost an hour cleaning and oiling my bike. What a mess.

Well, despite it was not a commute, I finally got my ass on the bike after persistant bad weather. A great breath of fresh air with 7.5 miles through the steep hills and lanes of the Moors. Sure beat out the cobwebs, and not in bad shape at all. Remember the stretching out.

Stretching out. I know from experience that stretching out greatly reduces injury risk. Also creates more power across the full range of limb movement. I've seen some bad injuries in Badminton by lack of warming up and flexibility. When an achillies snaps, it's like a rifle shot. And 6 months to heal. I did a knee ligament by not warming up.

In long distance running, swimming, and riding, I just believe that starting out slow for a while works just fine. Listening to the feelings from the muscles and feel how well the workout potential could be according to the first several + minutes/miles works for me. Those are key indicators for me. In other sports like tennis, badminton, basketball, and others that require cutbacks, I see a much greater need for static stretching. Dynamic stretches are important in my line of athletics.

Understand what you mean. I used to do the same - start out slow running etc. Still, after doing early morning easy stretching and before sleeping it reduced tightening and my starting flexibility is improved. Though some people do tighten more. It's to do with the natural elasticity of the ligaments, mostly genetic.
