Many folks around me who went to this race or are into running are thinking now only about full marathons. I don't know if I'm up to the job.
I have another idea in my mind since couple of days and I'm now digging to find MTB triathlons near here :)

I'm registered for my first Triathlon in early June! My swimming isn't pretty, but I grew up swimming in cold Northern Lakes. The water will still be cold in June upstate.

My Tri wetsuit and my new race tyres both arrived this week. That's one of the best parts of a new sport. New Gear! I may go swimming this weekend in 8 deg C (46.8 F) to try out the new suit.

That's what seems to cause the most problems in Tris locally. Two died and many DQ'd in the swim in the NYC Triathlon last year. The feeling is, too much pool training. They weren't ready for the cold and the race stress.

In fact, it seems most Tri problems are either in the swim or early in the cycling.

Which distances ? off road cycling or asphalt ?

Your post made me think about the topic indeed ! The event I wrote before is in August but located kind of in the mountains (the lake is fed by the waters of mountain streams...) so I wonder what to wear. I have an upper part of suit, indeed a sort surfing shirt with long sleeves, but nothing to the legs apart from standard lycra leggings, I don't know if this can be appropriate..

I'm doing Road, Sprint distances. For a first Tri. Everything for me now, is really through the lens of the Marathon in November. Have to work up to that.

I think it should take me about 2.5 hours. A nice workout. I just aim to finish it before they tear down the course. I'm not planning to do the Marathon next year, instead train for a big cycle race and maybe an Oly Tri. Get back into climbing and maybe a Cyclocross Race again.

Really have to plan ahead. Too much, and your training gets messed up. So you have to spread it out but keep building.

I need glasses thatI can see out the tops of. My current ones, I get into tuck, and I'm looking over the tops. Need a swim cap. Then I should be good.

Oh, geez, Ani... that cold water is going to chase you right out!! Good luck on that first swim!!

So here's my tri training schedule:

I wake at 4:55 to make coffee and feed the cats and dog. After pooping the dog, I usually have time for a 30-45 minute easy spin on the indoor trainer, then its off to workout. M,W,F 6:30 am swimming in pool for 2500 yards at least.

T,Th,Sun are 8-12 mile runs. I am commuting three to four times a week and the 7.5 miles to work in 23 minutes twice a day on the commuter usually covers the bike portion.

If not Sat morns are great for bricks of bike to run in any distance and Sun's I will put in am and pm workouts totaling out for 3-4 hours across the day. Typically, a month gets 45 hours of tri training.

Food intake is key too, though everyone knows that!

I just changed out my 32 mm CX tires off my race wheels, put on 28 mm Gatorskins and blasted through Central Park. wowza The bike was much faster. Dangerously so, weaving around Pedicabs, Tourists crossing, all kinds of Friday evening stuff, finally found some other cyclists and screamed through the East side. Not that bad, the other day, I saw a guy on a Tri bike with a Aero helmet trying to push 300 Watts past the Boathouse. :D

Bought a new pair of running shoes tonight as well. I've got 4 pairs but my favs are these Nimbus I bought last September for Treadmill shoes. Ended up doing the Marathon in them. My feet are telling me they are through. Got the same thing and did a quick run on the 'mill in the shop.

Stiff as heck in my upper legs. Power down, even with little biking. Working on the cars hasn't helped.

Got to get back to the running, that seemed to work the best. Still far off from starting Badminton again. A few modest miles should shake out the gremlins.

Ran a nice steady 8 miles (13km) today. I've decided the only race I care about time, will be the full in November.

The "rule" I've heard, is run no more than a mile per day from a race. So, with a 10k Saturday, if I wanted to race my best, I should've gone no more than 6 miles today. I've got 4 races next month and a Sprint Tri In early June. So I need to get the motor right. Run the 10k a little faster, than I ran today, but not go for a Personal Record (PR). I ran 3.5k (2.1) miles in 16 minutes yesterday. For me, that's really fast. Wanted to get the feel of the speed without damaging todays long.

A lot of this is the self psychology. Running 8 easily today is good, the two crashes this week were bad. A crummy run tomorrow could bum me out again.

Out on the bike first thing this morning. Still stiff as heck in upper thighs, but nevertheless got the hammer down for a few good sprints.

And then back to keeping the car in shape :D Weather, freakily great. But drought beginning to affect more of the country. Though having the benefit of being able to get much more done.

Car got a new petrol tank, fixed a defect on the handbrake. And ready for action.

Wondering if it will rain before next winter. Except for one day, nothing but blue sky for 3 weeks now

Ran yesterday 13km (8 miles) in less than 70mn. Seems that the half marathon combined with the close training schedule lately have improved something, feeling more and more comfortable with my running pace.

Yes, that's part of the training. The body wants to get through this as easily as possible. Starts teaching you how to do it with a miniumum of effort. Minimize damage.
