Brilliant sunny commute by -11°C (12F)
I feel pity for these poor ducks struggling to keep a piece of unfrozen water...

During which I could observe a curious phenomenon of non-snowy stripes on the ice due to a specific chronology of weather events...

Gorgeous Eric! It looks like your commute was wonderful.

Here: warm! About 30 degrees, no breeze, slightly cloudy. It's going to snow the rest of the week and get progressively colder, so probably won't be riding. Meh.

Regarding stretching: I take a bit of an agnostic view. I'm not a stretcher, I know people who are and love it and I also know people who've injured themselves stretching. That's about all I can contribute.

When I was younger and prior to my relocating in Poland I used to do rowing. I started at the age of 11, and stretching always was a mandatory part of our trainings before (together with warming) and after. I have always kept this habit and always stretch when I practice any kind of sport, even hiking and biking. Stretching the legs is particularly important of course, but the bust also to avoid pain in the back.

At the risk of drifting this thread ... to some people, stretching is almost a religion. If you question it, you'll be subjected to all kinds of epithets.

Study questions usefulness of stretching.

I love all those freezing commutes and stretches... but I once again agree with a warm up over a long yoga session, though I love yoga (yet rarely incorporate it anymore). 50 mph gusts await me in the morning!!

Well, today is supposed to be unsettled, but not too stormy so off I went to grab the bike! And ... flat rear tire. No problem, I run slime so I'll just pump it up. Get the pump and ... hissssss! The tear is too big for the slime to handle and the air is just rushing out. So I drove. *sad tombone*

Flats are always occuring at the worse moments.
I have a little under-sit box where I keep the tyre-gear and a spare tube. Last year I forgot it only once at home while leaving. It was the only day I had a flat in the year. By the worse of the coincidences I also forgot the locker and my money. Couldn't buy another tube in the shop nearby. Couldn't lock it somewhere to get back home and return to fix it. Had to ring at a random house where a retired couple accepted to keep it for a couple of hours !

Just posted few more pics, and gathered the best of 2010-2011 winter commutes into this :
http://www.mbpost.com/album/280202/wint ... album.html
This morning the wave of cold reached probably its peak with -13°C (9F). But the weather is still brilliant, the air dry, the ground as hard as stone.
It was probably also my last deep-winter commute, since holidays stop on Monday, which means wife and son get back to work and kindergarden, and the car commutes which I had already forgotten about so quickly...
But I'm hoping to get back on the bike, as soon as temperatures will become more gentle in March !

Whew! That's plenty cold. I'm really looking forward to March. Ski season is over. Bring on the warm weather!

Yup, despite the many pleasures of cold, crisp weather, it's time for Spring, Tee-shirts and shorts, bread and cheese, and a "bottle" in the wine carrier.

Yesterday, wonderful! 38F in the morning, clear and just a slight breeze. So nice I had to go for a ride after work, even through the weather had started to change. It was quite windy on the ride and a bit cooler up in the hills (and muddy!) but was great to get out. Today: rain.

Couldn't help commuting by bike again... we're having our third week of continuous sunny weather and it looks like next week will still also be...
So I drive my son to kindergarden, go back home, change and take the bike... OK, it takes me about 30mn more than if I drove straight to work... but cycling in such weather is so good after the gloomy winter ! Having temperatures similar as BeDrinkable.

Today, 3-3-11, asphalt, a little wet and short -- only 8 miles round trip. Didn't feel like hitting up the dirt trails on the way home :(

Sounds like a perfect a recovery day!! We topped out at 21 degrees with only 35 mph wind gusts. What I would give to be where you are. Mid 40's, rain... PARADISE!!! :D

I've never seen a Trekie on my commute ...

Today was nice, not great. The valley is socked in with fog so the cool air goes right through my bones! Just about freezing but not too cold, so no patches of ice to worry about. Tomorrow should be nicer.
