OverviewAles for trails is an event to raise money to build and maintain trails in Billings, MT. While these are not dirt trails, many people ride thier mountain bikes to and from work etc. Despite the fact that this event raises money for hard surfaced trails only, what is almost as important in making this worth writing about is that you get to sample a selection of local and semi-local microbrew beer that is second to none!
History of Ales for Trails
In 2000, a group of bicycling advocates had an idea to raise money to build bike trails by selling microbrews at an outdoor festival.
The event has grown to include more music, more microbrews and more people. Over the years, bicycle enthusiasts can take pride in the fact that they have raised over $100,000 which has been directly responsible for the building of 15 miles of hard-surface trails around Billings, MT.
Starting with $5,000 in earnings the first year, this event is currently making approximately $35,000 each year. The bigger the bike trail's presence in Billings, the more people support them.
Some of the successes of the money raised at the Ales for Trails is the bike tunnel under Shiloh Road and the trail that goes from 38th Street south of Arrowhead to 46th Street West...among many more!Beers!I'm working on finding a beer list...I obviously can't remember all 40!AdmissionAdmission is $20 per person, which includes a commemorative beer tasting glass and five beer tokens. More tokens can be purchased at the rate of $4.00 each or 5 tokens for $20.
Forty regional microbrews and one rootbeer will be on tap. A raffle for a Fat Tire bicycle will also be held. Raffle tickets are $5.
