OverviewHillclimb to Mount Zavizan is a unique race which starts from the fishermen village and harbour Sveti Juraj near Senj in Croatia and the course leads cyclists to steep roads which have been used for centuries for timber transport from inland to the shore. Much of Venice was built on pillars which were cut in virgin forests on the Velebit mountain. Those who reach 1000 m height difference are rewarded by dense shade of the National park Northern Velebit woods. In return they have to make another 17 km and 600 m height difference to the finish line at the mountain refuge and meteorological station Zavizan. Naturalists can visit a very specific botanical garden there. After the end of the race all participants enjoy 33 km downhill to the start line in Sveti juraj where the organizers invite them to a fish and wine dinner. Less fit riders can join the race at 1000 m altitude in Oltari and ride comfortably through the forest only. They get fish and wine at Sveti Juraj, too.Registration and FeesRegistration is accepted by internet at www.senj.hr starting in May. Fee which provides for refreshments along the course, safety, light meal at the finish line and fish and wine in the evening upon return to the start point in Sveti Juraj.
