Overview

The flagship trail of the moose mountain trail system, this 30+ km epic ride has a great combination of killer climbs and fun descents. nothing is ever too hard but there is something for everyone. can be done as an after work ride by the extremely fit, but will take 4+ hours for most.

Trail Description

The trailhead starts out at Station Flats, easily the most popular start point for riding in the Calgary area. From here, there are several options: ride the road to the Lower Pneuma climb, or start out on singletrack by riding Sulphur Springs from the parking lot.

after some time, one will reach Middle Pneuma. simply put, this climb rocks! Eventually there will be an obvious intersection with a DH trail (there are visible stunts). This is Race of Spades; continue on up unless you have your DH rig with you!

After the climb gets much steeper and more technical, it will pop out onto an exposed subalpine meadow. This is beautiful riding, with relentless rocks and the promise of a short but sweet black diamond section up ahead...

There is another intersection after this; the venerable Packers Trail. This trail has been around since long before bikes...i've personally been riding it for 20 years or so. This will take you onto the Ridgeback 1 trail, which starts with a grinder climb and ends with a very long buff descent

finally you will end up on ridgeback 2 and 3, which are sinuous, narrow trails with constant grade reversals, and a few steep short climbs festooned with roots. careful in the wet...it can get mushy in spots. The trail ends at your car, in Station Flats...where hopefully you've kept some beer cold!

The trail system is officially good to go from spring till late fall; it can be ridden in the winter at lower elevations and on the steeper south facing slopes.
