Overview

The Skull Trail is rated as a single black diamond on the South Island Mountain Bike Society map. It is a short trail of fast, fun singletrack with steep bermed corners with some boardwalks and small (under 1 foot) drops.

Trail Description

A well built trail. The Skull trail is primarily fast, packed dirt singletrack with bermed corners (reinforced with rock). There are some small drops and boardwalk on the trail and a few easy skinnys. There are no uphill sections on the trail. Between each corner and obstacle are nice singletrack for cranking fast.

Getting There

Follow the directions to get to the Hartland Road Parking area in the area page. From there head to the park entrance on the other side of Hartland Road. Follow the trail left of the terrain park. At the regional trail head right. Follow the Regional Trail around a switchback. About 400m up the Regional Trail you will come to the Skull Trail on your left. It is marked with a small painted marker. Skull Trail can also be reached through any number of combinations of trails through other areas of the park. See the map for details.
