OverviewThe summit trail climbs from the Primrose Cirque (the Aspen Grove trail up Timp) to the summit parking lot, then drops down the other side to Salamander Flats (and maybe more).
Trail DescriptionThe trail starts up just after crossing over the river. The bridge that used to span the river is gone, and the trail dips about 30' into wilderness area, so you're supposed to carry your bike until you pass the wilderness boundary sign a few feet up the trail.
There are exits to the road on two of the sharp switchbacks. The lower one is tricky to find unless you know where it is. There's a small log on the right of the trail just after you round a corner. The trail isn't well marked. You'll go over a fallen tree or two (I moved one this summer), around a large pine, and then reach the road (about 100' total). The upper turn off is obvious.
The trail reaches the south side of the summit parking lot, then continues down from the north-west corner. It reaches the tricking stream on the tight corner just above Salamander Flats (not the hairpin, the corner below that). It continues through the flats and...I'm not sure if it continues or just turns into other trails there.Getting ThereStandard parking lots along the Alpine Loop (see the parent area for this trail).
