Overview
Evey Canyon and Potato Mountain are some of the most loved places in Claremont. Potato Mountain stands as a sentinel over Claremont and it's Wilderness Park. Great views of the Inland Valley and the foothills of Claremont are to be seen. Evey Canyon is filled with Coast Live Oak and Sycamore trees, though four years ago fire sweep through them but they are recovering nicely. This is a great route for riding in the spring when flowers are blooming. Evey Canyon Road can also be linked up with other route in the Claremont Hills.
Trail Description
The Evey Canyon route used for Potato starts at the Evey Canyon fireroad trailhead. Ride around the closed gate on the left side. The fire road at first descends then climbs through oak woodland for 1.5 miles where it reaches a open chaparral saddle. Take the left road and ascend to the summit in about a mile. On the summit is a concrete water tank. It is a nice place to sit and watch the view.
A nice side trip is to take the west ridge firebreak back to the saddle with Evey Canyon.
