OverviewHuckaby a fairly new trail constructed in 1999. Great views and a good technical descent down to Oak Creek. The remainder of the trail is fairly easy but because of the descent which has gotten more technical as erosion adds it flair I gave the trail the "Hard" rating. I am sure many may walk portions of the descent. Usually included in a loop with the Jim Thompson Trail or in conjuntion with Munds Wagon Trail.
Purple- Huckaby

Trail Description From the parking lot off of Schnebly Hill Rd. Starting heading down from the parking lot on the marked trail. The trail quickly descends into Bear Wallow Canyon and then climbs out a good huff for sure. After climbing out the trail stays level with the contours as it traverses around the end of Mitten Ridge. Great views of Wilson Mt., Snoopy Rock, Steamboat Rock, The Acropolis "Ship Rock", Camels Head......Etc. ......"Great Views!". At this point the trail is super easy so you can enjoy the views. As the descent starts the technicalality picks up big time steep chunky rock gardens appear and quickly if your riding it you will drop 200 ft down to oak creek. The trail parralells the creek upstream towards Midgley Bridge often staying on a limestone bench. This section is moderatly technical. You will run straight into the creek throw the bike on your shoulder and rock hop across. On the other side I usually keep the bike on the shoulder as it is large river rocks and soft sand....NO FUN! you will cross another section of creek where you will begin you ascent upto Midgley Bridge. Start breathin especially if you heading up Jim Thompson too. As the climb tops out you will hear the traffic of 89a and you will make a left at a trail junction. Soon the trail passes under Midgley Bridge (If you look on your right there is a route up to the road that bypasses going under the bridge cross the road to the parking lot) and Huckaby is done.Getting ThereFrom the "Y" in Sedona go south on Hwy 179 1\3 mile to Schnebly Hill Rd. Make a left just after crossing oak creek follow Schnebly Hill Rd. 3\4 mile to parking lot on left at the end of the pavement.
