OverviewThis is another great trail in the area. It can be accessed off of FR 543 (closed) or from the Gashouse Gulch TH, off of FR 550. I prefer to ride this trail downhill to Baldy Trail if starting at GG TH. Riding UP this trail from Baldy can be a little brutal. Uphill from the GG TH to the Miller Gulch trail is difficult, but rewarding.
Trail Description Fast, loose PPG that can send you sprawling if you're not ready for the looseness. It goes through the Buffalo Creek burn area, so there is no shade.
I have to add that this trail is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite in the area. Such a nice climb, such a nice downhill. The west (up towards Miller Gulch) is a great climb through beautiful forest, and the east (down towards Gashouse Gulch/Baldy intersection) is a great downhill. Be aware that your tires can wash out easily in the PPG; both your front and rear tired. Crashing into the deadfall would probably be unpleasant.
IMHO, this trail is best done as a downhill from the upper Gashouse Gulch TH, or by collecting it after riding the CT past the Buffalo Creek Campground, down/over 550, then hitting this DH.Getting ThereSee map, and see the Area listing.
When to BikeSame info for the area and other trails - hot in mid-day, hot in summer - avoid those times. Images |
