The Falcon Trail resides on the Air Force Academy grounds. The trail gives you a good look at the natural and man-made beauty of the academy, and provides some good fun. There are also trail signs along the way that describe the different plants, geology, and natural phenomena in the area. This trail is open to bikers and hikers.

Trail Description

Almost entirely singletrack, with a few road crossings. Most of it is dirt and packed dirt, with a few spots of decomposed Pikes Peak Granite.

Descriptive signs along the trail guide you through the experience. You can expect warm, hot, dry days during the summer. There is no water available on the trail, but some of the buildings have public restrooms for water and facilities.

Getting There

From Colorado Springs, head north to the South AFA Gate - Academy Blvd. Head west, bringing an US issued ID card.

The start/finish point for the trail is immediately south of Building 5132, the Youth Center building. It is identified by a large blue sign and is shown on the Falcon Trail Map (available at the Visitor Center - follow the main Academy Drive signage to the visitor center).

When to Bike

Mornings are best to avoid the heat. Evenings are good, too, but the area can have afternoon thunderstorms. I wouldn't ride it in winter, but all other months are a go.

You must have an US issued ID to get on the campus, and you will receive a V (visitor) badge, which you are supposed to display at all times.
