Overview

The Provo Canyon race loop is a popular mountain bike trail for riders of all skill levels. Offering well-maintained dirt singletrack right at the mouth of Provo Canyon, most of the climbs and descents are easy enough for intermediate riders to handle, while giving more advanced riders an opportunity to cruise around at high speeds.

Trail Description

Climbing up the gravel access road at the base of the loop, the trail forks right into a short climb on loose rock. This is the hardest part. Beyond that, the trail is mostly dirt singletrack with a few embedded rocks. Most of the climbs are not very strenuous, and most of the descents are not very technical. A few of the bigger hills and tighter corners offer a bit of challenge, but much of this trail can be ridden at a good speed.

If you are unfamiliar with the trail, it is easy to get lost up there. There are a number of forks all along the trail, providing shortcuts and access to other trails in the area. If you get off the loop trail, ride a downhill trail. You should eventually connect to a route that will bring you back down to the park. See images for a map of the loop trail.

Getting There

From the Provo-Orem area, head north into Provo Canyon. The first park on the left will be Canyon View park. Turn left immediately after the entrance to Canyon View park, cross the bridge, and enter the parking area of Mount Timpanogos park.

At the far end of the parking area, find the gravel road that goes uphill. Ride up the road and fork right onto a trail of loose rock. Continue uphill and pass under a pipeline. Fork left at the top to begin loop.

When to Bike

The trail is clear most of the year, as it sits on a southward-facing slope.
