OverviewThe three-lane paved trail running alongside the Provo River in Provo Canyon is the Provo River Parkway. It is a 15-mile trail from Vivian Park to Utah Lake State Park, including a seven-mile stretch through Provo Canyon. With two lanes for bicycles and one lane for pedestrians, the trail also attracts runners, rollerbladers, skateboarders, and longboarders.Trail DescriptionThis paved trail is used by both road and mountain bikers. Mountain bikers may choose to use this as a connecting route between their favorite trails or as an easy warm-up. The slope of the trail is barely perceptible, gaining altitude gradually as it goes further north. As a result, users of all types and ages can be found anywhere along the trail.Getting ThereThis trail can be accessed from any of the parks in Provo Canyon, reaching as far north as Vivian Park. There is also a parking area at the northwest corner of Orem's 800 N and University Avenue, right at the mouth of Provo Canyon. Some users may choose to access the trail further south, as it continues down into Provo and ends at Utah Lake State Park. When to BikeFrom Vivian Park to Bridal Veil Falls (at Nunns Park), the trail is typically closed from November through March. Snows from the mountain slopes collect on the trail and must be cleared before the gates are opened in the spring.Red TapeThere are signs posted periodically along the trail with a list of rules for trail users. Rules include speed limits of 15 mph. Images |
