Luboń Wielki Luboń Wielki is not exactly in Gorce but in Mały Beskidy, but not far from Rabka indeed so it can be mentioned in the famous Gorce summits.
The mountain is a long flat ridge, with an antenna on its top, and a mountain refuge.
Trail Description
Leaving the vilage of Luboń Maly and the last houses, the climb of Luboń starts with a very discouraging climb.
From the very beginning, you need to step down, and push. In some places the trail is very rocky, it's just like a hollow in the bottom of which some rocky outcrops are eroded by heavy rains which probably turn it into a stream during bad weather.
Later, the climb becomes more generous, and you cycle along a fine steadily climbing trail in the forest.
At half-way is located a wide meadow with few barns. According to the smell in the area they produce some cheese.
Further, the trail continues, still steadily climbing in the forest, with some fine views, occasionally on the North side.
Nearer the end, you have a glance to the last part, and you know that you will have to push again just by watching the steep end of the hill.
You can deal with the very beginning of the increase of the slope, but it is exponentially getting steeper and soon or late you need to push, but only for a short while.
Soon you see a big clearing and you arrive, in a sculpted wooden gate, to the area with the mountain refuge.
Two buildings stand there, plus, a bit further, an immence antenna. This is a pity because the antenna is not beautiful at all, and stand so close to the hut, which, on the opposite, is magnificent (it is something like one century old, wooden architecture).
Near the hut are few tables and benches on which you can rest and drink, with a fine view to all the highlands on the north of Luboń Wielki, deacreasing on the horizon as they get closer to the city of Cracow.
Cycling down Luboń Wielki, just under the hut, it is more safe to walk along the bike, until the moment the slope becomes more reasonable to stand on it. Very technical slope, until the flat trail.
You cycle back all the way described, until the steep place of the beginning. Here also, stepping down the bike is not compulsory; the descent is very technical but with a good balance and concentration you can cycle down the rocky part without falling or stepping down.
3h required.Getting ThereFrom Cracow, take the direction to Zakopane. Some 7-8 km before rabka, just before the road 28 to Mszana Dolna, there is a village called Luboń Mały, on a very small road on the left. This is very easy to miss this junction, which is located in a very dangerous bend.
In Luboń Mały, there is very small space. Perhaps park in front of the street sigh "Aleja Luboń" in front of the only house near where you can park.
Another option is to park at the restaurant on the main road just below. Images |
