OverviewLos Gatos Road is a paved road in De Luz. Although it is paved, that doesn't mean that it is nice. Its probably the steepest paved road that I have ever seen. It gains around 800ft of elevation in less then a mile! This is not for the weak at heart! This trail is a little short for just doing this route, so to add on, one could ride around the area or ride at the Santa Rosa Plateau, which is just above Los Gatos Road.
Trail DescriptionThe only thing that can really be said about this road is that it is extremely steep. Low gears would be useful and do not loose momentum. Also, be safe on the ride down. When I did this route, a friend clocked us at over 45 miles per hour (thats with using a lot of break). Make sure your breaks are good and watch out for cars!Getting ThereFrom Temecula- From the 15fwy, take Rancho California Road all the way up into the hills (west). Follow this until you reach De Luz Road. Take a left on De Luz Road and then follow this till you reach Carancho Road (don't misss the turn). Take a right and follow this road for awhile. Los Gatos road will be on the right side of the road. Find a place to park and begin riding. Also, you could start from the Vernal Pool Trailhead in the Santa Rosa Plateau. This trailhead is just above Los Gatos RoadWhen to BikeYear round. Try to avoid summer cause it can get really hot outside. Images |
