Overview Some people like to say that trails in SoCal aren't that difficult. Obviously they haven't ridden this trail....
The Wiashal Trail begins (or ends depending upon the way you start) just before the Santa Rosa Plateau Visitor Center. It then follows the ridgeline south and above Clinton Keith Road before finally descending into Murrieta.
I have heard this trail called "Superman" by a few people multiple times. That is why that is part of the name.
If you are looking for an easy trail to do or are a beginner, DO NOT ride this trail. It is not for the weak at heart. It is very steep and technical in certain sections, so be warned. Do not take the sign at the beginning of the trail lightly.
If you are going to ride it, make sure your brakes are very good. Also, chest protectors and other protection should be considered when riding this trail, especially a helmet. Downhill professionals practice on this trail....
This is a multi-purpose trail, so be aware that you are required to share the trail with hikers and horses.
Trail Description Looking at the Trail | Depending upon when you go, the trail may be very rutted out. The Santa Rosa Plateau tries to maintain this trail, but they can’t always do so. So just be patient with the conditions of the trail and know that it is maintained as best as possible. The trail traverses through dense chaparral and through many areas littered with large boulders. As said before, it is also very steep and technical in places. Be aware of this. There are different forks in the trail; however, you want to keep heading down the ridgeline. So take the trails that point you in that direction. Towards the bottom of the hill, you reach a trail split that you can either heads you into a creek or up a slight hill. Ride up towards the hill and follow the trail as it goes behind the back of a housing track. Shortly after this, you reach a could de sac and pavement!
If you ride from the top to the bottom, you gain about 500ft and loose almost a 100ft. If you’re riding from the bottom up, you gain 100ft and loose 500ft.. Unless you have a car at both ends, plan on doing these elevations gains both ways.
Getting ThereFrom Murrieta- If your heading south on the 15 fwy, take a right onto Clinton Keith Road and if your going north, take a left. Follow Clinton Keith up into the hills and go past the Bear Creek area and past the fire station. Keep following the road up and the first little turnout on the left side (it should be just before the right turn to La Cresta) is where you park. Park here and begin riding. When to BikeYou can bike this trail all year. However, avoid the summer month’s because the temperature can reach well over 100 degrees.External LinksSanta Rosa Plateau
