OverviewThis is a short but steep climb to the Sokoliki rocks. Those rock formations, pretty typical of the south west part of Dolny Slask, are characteristic pillar of granite that emerge from the forest. Are very popular among hikers and climbers as well. Sokolik in particular is very frequented by turist, who can climb them without any equipment and they can enjoy the stunning view on the top.
The trail starts in Janowice Wielkie and gently climbs up to on a paved road till the point you leave the road and start following the marked path to Sokolik Duża. The trail is only partially suitable for bikes, but is anyway an easy climb even with your bike on the shoulders.
Trail DescriptionThe trail starts in Janowice Wielkie train station. You have to turn left immediately after the PKP station, on the cobblestone street. On top turn left, at the turist information and follow the road. The road runs for a while along the stream Bóbr, then in Trzcińsko start climbing up towards Karpniki. On top of the hill you will find a parking space on your left and marks of the green cyclepath. Turn right soon before the parking and keep going: don't be afraid of the bar that block the path as it is just the border of the regional park. Soon after the bar you will find a junction, with the red path on the left and an unmarked, wider path in front of you. Follow this one, as the red one is suitable only for hikers. The climb is not steep, but very rocky. I did it with my cyclocross, so with a MTB should be no problem. You will reach another junction: go up (left). On this path you will find many parts where is impossible to ride. Carry up your bike, is not long. You will find yourself again on the red trail that reach up to all the main Sokoliki rocks. Lock your bike at the beginning of the stairs and go up to Sokolok Duzy and enjoy the view.
Ride back on the red trail, meet again also the green route and you will reach Kryzna Gora and the charming chalet Swajcarka (http://www.szwajcarka.jga.pl/). From there you can keep going on the blue and the green route, :medium:] to reach other rocks on the other side of those hills, or you can hit the road and to a bit of road cycling. I cycled to Kamienna Gora and back to Wroclaw, given that I was with the Cyclocross and not with the MTB.
Getting ThereYou can take any train from Wroclaw to jelenia Gora and step down in Janowice Wielkie. Or with the car drive to Janowice and park in front of the Train station. An alternative ruote start from Wojanow.
