Voted 10/10 | Nothing wrong with trying even if you might get some cold sweats from the ordeal ! Mind you what is preferable is to bring the snorkeling equipment along... Here in Quebec a big surprise is uncovering intact coral strands in Blue sea lake . Just ask Mr Tomlin (of Tomlin scuba diving in Val D'or Quebec )about it. I personally thought he was pulling my leg even if he indicated this to me so seriously ! Imagine investigating such relics potentially going back to the origins of life but most probably associated with the sea that arose with the last ice age... | | Posted Apr 27, 2010 5:02 pm |

Hasn't voted | I have been snorkeling there! Even better, was Labrador. The amount of sea life in the Straight of Belle Isle is incredible! | | Posted Feb 18, 2011 2:08 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Some of Audubon's famous drawings are from the area (above water obviously ! ) . Despite the wealth of sea birds most people don't venture below water considering the low temperatures at the point of passage of the very cold Labrador current which supplants the gulf stream , the straight itself being notorious as a passage point for large icebergs.... Although, once considering the pertained abundance of marine organisms to encounter with further consideration for what the relative proximity holds in terms of fish , with the grand banks being in the past deemed as one of the most fertile areas world wide for commercial fishing , I wouldn't be surprised that there is such a great wealth of life to uncover there in those frigid waters.
Mind you , despite the accounts of numerous whale sightings (which can be tracked by satellite...) I am quite sceptical of their very existence even if the waters are fertile !...
What I thought was particularly intriguing about the marine life of this province is indirectly a consequence of what Mr Tomlin indicated (of Tomlin scuba diving in Val D'or) once describing lake fish ! I'm just wondering how someone can catch such trophy fish without bringing in the heavy artillery ! Mind you, a minnow can't do wonders to lure a monster !............. | | Posted Feb 18, 2011 9:03 pm |
